Even though the introductory talk was short, hardly ever
exceeding 1 minute, it demands careful preparation.
Most important items are gather your facts: these will
center around 3 items. The subject of the speaker’s talk, his qualifications to
speak on that subject, and his name.
This can be obviated by making sure you know what the
speakers subject is and refraining from trying to predict what he will say. I think
another book also mentioned about the name. I think it is so important that you
don’t want to make any mistakes about someone’s name.
Sometimes, it is difficult to pronounce the last name
correctly and it is important to double check before the introductory talk ,
because it is pretty complicated sometimes and people can make a mistake so
easily.
It reminds me of the general manager who I mentioned before.
One day, he had to introduce a senior marketing manager who decided to take
another path for his career and I was so surprised that this GM remembered all
the memories about him. The products that he worked together on and shared his
achievements in very fine detail. I still keep in touch with him and every time
when I meet him, I’m so amazed about him, because he is very sharp to remember
many things in detail.
In this chapter, one technique is preparing well for the
introductory talk, but when I think about my GM, I don’t think he actually prepared
it. Perhaps, He prepared about the person who he is going to introduce, but it
was so natural that the listeners believe that it was an impromptu talk.
Now, I am curious about it and I would like to ask him
when I get a chance to meet him in person.
Anyways, the key takeaways are preparation of
introductory talk which are mainly 3 items.
