It
mentioned that there are only 4 ways in which we have contact with the world.
The
four contacts are what we do, how we look, what we say and how we say it.
So,
this chapter is focusing on how we say it.
It
is important to talk like a natural English speaker, but the biggest subliming
block, of course, is stiffness, not only of the physical but of the mental
well, a kind of hardening of the categories that comes with growing up.
You
know, when you were a child, say 4 years old, you probably could have mounted a
platform and talked naturally to people. But when you are getting old like 24
to 44, what happens when you mount a platform and start to speak?
The
key is to talk like a human being and it is not easy to speak without
practicing. This chapter is emphasizing that we need to break this wall to talk
naturally, when we speak.
I
think it is like a little kid who started learning how to read a book. They
probably started focusing on each word to speak rather than reading with
chunking like a natural dialog. It also reminds me of actors and actresses who
practice their script in many difference ways to find a good tone for each
scene.
