“Why
can’t we adapt this same psychology to business dealings? When we have a
brilliant idea, instead of making others think it is ours, why not let them
cook and stir the idea themselves. They will then regard it as their own; they
will like it and maybe eat a couple of helpings of it. “
One
story is about a girl who didn’t like eating breakfast and the parents tried
many tactics, but none of them worked. Then, they found out that the little
girl loved to imitate her mother, to feel big and grown up. So one morning they
put her on a chair and let her make the breakfast and it worked. A little girl
ate 2 bowls of cereals. So, First, arouse in the other person an eager want and
second let them have the whole world with it.
It
is human nature that we don’t like someone controlling the other person and
with the same reason, people don’t like a micro manager who wants to control
everything and keep eyes on them. I do like encouragement and push them to take
on a challenge. The person will not be afraid anything, because they feel a
strong support behind the scenes and it really helps the person grow stronger
with high confidence.
It
is good for the individual team member as well as the whole team. I personally
think that we need more strength on this and give more ownership and responsibility
to individuals, instead of the team. In my opinion, it is sort of the company
culture that is not easy to change, but as someone said “Slow and steady.” If we
just take one step at a time, eventually we will get there if we keep going in
the right direction. And we can change the culture.
