If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own.
“The
world is full of people who are grabbing and self-seeking. So the rare individual
who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage. He has little
competition. One noted lawyer and one of America’s great business leaders once
said that people who can put themselves in the place of other people who can
understand the workings of their minds, need never worry about what the future
has in store for them.”
One
following story was this “ The child was underweight and refused to eat
properly and his parents used the usual method. They scolded and nagged “
Mother wants you to eat this and that, and Father wants you to grow up to be a
big man.”
Does
the boy pay any attention to these pleas? Just about as much as you pay to a speck
of sand on a sandy beach. No none with a trace of horse sense would expect a
child 3 years old to react to the viewpoint of a father thirty years old. Yet
that was precisely what that father had expected. Then, One day, The boy loved
to ride up and down the sidewalk and a bigger boy pulled the little boy off his
tricycle and rode it himself. You can guess what happened next. His eagerness
motivated him to be stronger by eating.
This
book reminds me of this same principal in many different ways. Looking at the
other person’s point of view and arousing eager want for something is not to be
construed as manipulation that person so that people will do something that is
only for their benefit and their damage. If I remember this one principal, I am
always going to think from their point of view and it will slowly change my
mind to start thinking on their side. It will give me more smiles on my face,
because I will think about their point of view and not criticize their
mistakes. I can call peoples name more clearly and respect their opinions and
on and on. It is also beneficial for both parties. Not only for them or me.
