How to spur people on to success

One example, “ Many years ago a boy of ten was working in a factory in Naples, He longed to be a singer but his first teacher discouraged him that he can’t sing and told him that it sounds like the wind in the shutters.”.  But his mother praised him and told him that he could sing and this encouragement changed that boy’s life and he became most famous opera singer of his age”.
This story also reminded me of one which is from Korea.  His name is Kim ho jun. he used to be a trouble maker at school and couldn’t finish his high school and he became a gagster, but then, one day, he went to a music record store and heard music about Luciano Pavarotti. This music really touched his heart and he started learning opera. When he learned for about 5 months, his teacher suggested he stop being a gagster and encouraged him to focus on opera. Eventually, he was able to get a sponsorship to study opera in Germany and he was able to become a singer like the late tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
Later on, a film company made a movie based on his life story.
This chapter said “Use of praise instead of criticism is the basic concept of B.F. Skinner’s teachings. This great contemporary psychologist has shown by experiments with animals and with humans that when criticism is minimized and praise emphasized, the good things people do will be reinforced and the poorer things will atrophy for lack of attention. “
I think this works on the job too and we all crave appreciation and recognition, and will do almost anything to get it. But the principles will work only when this comes from the heart. Not advocating a bag of tricks.
It says, “Talk about changing people. If you and I will inspire the people with whom we come in contact to a realization of the hidden treasures they possess, we can do far more than change people. We can literally transform them“.
This is a magical power that we are probably not using to the fullest extent of our ability to praise people and inspire them with a realization of their latent possibilities.
